Students who major in Sociology are encouraged to excel in their academic work. To help students accomplish excellence during their academic career, the Department of Sociology has teamed with the Mānoa Honors Program to establish an Honors Track in Sociology. Students engage in independent research and are privileged to work one-on-one with faculty members who specialize in their area of interest. Educational opportunities really do not get any better than that!

Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the international sociology honor society, and membership in our chapter of AKD has benefits ranging from a Gold Star on your resume to a year’s subscription to the official journal of AKD’s official journal Sociological Inquiry, travel awards, and paper competitions. Students who join AKD receive a beautiful certificate of membership, and graduating students who are members of AKD are recognized in the Commencement Exercise program.
